Obituary of Michael Edward Cassels

 Michael Edward Cassels, 81

Michael Edward Cassels, 81, of West Orange passed away on Sunday June 3, 2018.   

Visiting will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street in West Orange.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mike’s name to Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Letters of condolence may be posted at danglerfuneralhome.com.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday June 7, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, 225 Ridgedale Ave. in East Hanover. 

Michael was born in Washington Heights, New York City, and raised in Orange before moving to West Orange 50 years ago. He was the Deputy Director for the NJ Commission of the Blind & Visually Impaired. Michael proudly served in the United States National Guard. He was a member of the West Orange Knights of Columbus Council #5519 as well as a 4^th Degree Member of Archbishop Bailey #660 Assembly, the Our Lady of Lourdes Holy Name Society, where he was named 2004 Man of the Year, the Parish Council, Choir and a Catechist. He was a member of the Irish American Society of the Oranges and the Leitrim Society of New York.  Michael was most honored to serve as the 2011 Deputy Grand Marshall of the West Orange St. Patrick’s Day Parade. 

Michael was predeceased by his mother and father, Eleanor and Michael Cassels, his brother Robert and his beloved son Sean Michael Cassels.  He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Mary Noreen Cassels (nee Foley), devoted daughters Eileen and her husband Brian Aker, and Meghan and her husband Cory Todd.  Adored Poppy to Michael, Patrick, and Jameson Cassels, Colin, Dylan, and Jack Aker, Bailey Grace and Michaela Sean Todd.  He is also loved by his sister Mary Frances and husband Jim Kant, as well as his cousins, and nieces and nephews.
