Linda, We don't know each other and it has been over 40 years since I knew Earlie. I can't explain why his memory caused me to do a search to find him today. From time to time over the years, I've thought about him and wondered if he had followed his dreams to become a Broadway star.
Earlie and I were students at Hardaway High School in Columbus, GA. We met in 1975 when he was a Junior and I was a Sophomore. Earlie had earned one of the leading roles in Hardaway's musical, Once Upon a Mattress. It was directed by Vickie (Pappas) Krutzer. I had a minor non speaking role in the Chorus, but was thrilled to be a part of the show. I was a football player and wrestler and had no theatrical experience. It was my first and sadly my only musical. I was simply too nervous to speak or sing a solo, but was always amazed by Earlie. He had a fantastic singing voice and could deliver his lines perfectly with total confidence. He was a star and truly made the show a success.
After living in Columbus only two years, my family moved to Monroe, LA following my sophomore year. I've never been back and sadly lost track of all the people I knew there. Obviously, there was no Social Media back then and long distance phone calls were too expensive.
Interestingly though, the director of the play Vickie Pappas, moved to Monroe the same time I did and married Bill Krutzer. She still lives there. I don't know if she knows that Earlie died, but I know she loved him and would be as sad as I am to know he is no longer with us.
From what I read in his obituary, Earlie had a great family, career and life. I only hope God has given you his strength and peace over the last six years without Earlie. I honestly don't know if he would have even remembered me, but I just wanted you to know he will always live on in my memory as the star that he truly was. May Earlie rest in peace. God bless you and your family. Bill Huff www.linkedin.com/in/billhuff

The Lord God has blessed you in all the work of you and Earl's hands. He has watched over your Journey, he will continue. Be strong, believing in his promise to be by your side through it all. Earlie's legacy will go forth and from good seed comes good fruit. God Bless this family! We grew up in Cedar Hills faster then we thought, to leave the nest and build from what our parents instilled in us. Earl made believers out of the fact that people will believe the impossible when they see you live it. One love my brother in Christ !

God bless the Butler Family. My Family, the Wrights lived in Cedar Hills with the Butler Family and we too were a Gold Star Family like the Butlers as a result of our fathers dying in Viet Nam. I remember how proud we all were of Earlie, Michael's little brother going off to Broadway to act.
May God bless and keep the entire Butler Family and hold you close as you just laid to rest your Mom in November. The word of God promises that God will never leave or forsake us. Revelation 21:4 says "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Psalm 116:15 says "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints."
I pray God's comfort during this time and that you remember through Jesus Christ Our Savior we can be joined again with our family.
May God mend your hearts and you rejoice in the good memories.

We, in Columbus, Georgia are so very sorry to hear of the passing of Earl (as we knew him). As neighborhood kids growing up, it was not about which neighborhood you were in, we were all just kids together. Earl always carried himself in such a way, that you could only love and admire him. We are deeply saddened, and a part of us is missing, never to be replaced. We thank God for His infinite wisdom and we know that His love and comfort will guide you through this difficult time. May the Peace of God stay with you.
