John J. Buoye 86

John J. Buoye 86 of Cedar Knolls, formerly of Brick, and West Orange, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

John is survived by his loving wife Carol (nee McGreal), of 64 years and his children, John and his wife Mary Jo, Robert, Kevin and his wife Mary Kay, Edward, and Dennis and his wife Denise.  Forever cherished and remembered by his 8 loving grandchildren, Eddie, Jennifer, Trevor, Johnny, Holly, Kaitlyn, Courtney, and Sean.  Also survived by his sisters- in -law Harriet McGreal, Trudy McGreal, and Judy Buoye and his 14 nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret (nee Grimes) and his loving brother, Richard, his brother-in-law, Andrew McGreal and sister-in-law, Arlene Miele.

Born and raised in West Orange NJ, John attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grammar School and was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Preparatory School. John worked for the West Orange Recreation Department for 34 years and retired in 1993 as Director of the Department. He also worked as a waiter and maître de at the Robin Hood Inn in Clifton NJ.  After retirement he went to work for Darren at the Dangler Funeral Home.

John proudly served in the US Army and was a loyal supporter of the military.

John was a proud member of the Frank O’Hara Association and was honored to be chosen as a Deputy Grand Marshall of the 1998 West Orange St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  You could always count on him marching up Main Street on the day of the parade with pride and his Irish cap.

His greatest joy was spending time with his brother, Richard and his family, as well as watching his grandchildren in sports and school events. Another passion was playing a good round of golf with friends, followed by the 19th hole.  John was a founding member of the Ackie Force Golf Outing with 8 original members which eventually led to a full bus ride of young and old from Quigley’s parking lot to the Delaware Water Gap County Club.

West Orange was never far from John as he and his wife Carol maintained life long friendships, during their time in Brick, as well as their travels to Aruba and Florida.

Visitation will be held on Monday January 1, 2024 from 2PM – 6PM at the Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street, West Orange.

A funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday January 2, 2024 at 10AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Avenue, West Orange.
