I have known Donald as my English tutor since the early of 2015 in the West Orange library where he volunteered as an ESL teacher.
I had been lucky enough to be his student for over 8 years. He was the best teacher I have ever met, always with patience for my English learning. His teaching made me more and more interested in English words and American culture. NY times has changed to be routine reading as my English improves with his help. I learned so many words from him and wrote them in yearly notebooks, unfortunately the one in 2023 was not finished yet.
As for this teaching, my husband Jackey and I got to know Bernadette as well. We all had changed to be family friends. We started to know he was a great and responsible husband, loved and cared families. He had been a positive person and always encouraged and helped others. Sage knowledge spreader. Good neighbor, true and loyal friend. He liked nature, sports, music, loved life and was kind to all people around him. He dedicated his whole life to teaching and lived with a colorful personal life. He fulfilled His Boy Scouts oath perfectly” Help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight”. He lived an ordinary life, but a very meaningful life!
I have been appreciating his teaching, but now I am so sad for no more chances to say Thank You for this great teaching; no more chances to get his wonderful explanation on my new English words; no more chances to learn his new daily quote post; no more chances to invite him for my Chinese dumplings.
My teacher, my friend, hope you are enjoying a new life in paradise, keep doing only the right things in there as you always do in here. Enjoy all new and old happiness created by yourself.
RIP! My best teacher, an English word genius, a great human being!
