Thomas William Vincent, Sr., 94, formally of West Orange, NJ for 90 years passed away peacefully on August 8, 2023 at Aston Gardens in Parkland, FL. Thomas moved to Parkland in 2019 to be near his son. David and family.
Born on November 5, 1928 to Oitilia Peter Vincent and John Clyde Vincent in Orange, NJ. Pre-deceased in death by his wife of 70 years, Joan Hanley Vincent, sister, Barbara Marie Vincent, and brother John C. Vincent, Jr.
Thomas was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy 1946-1948 and the US Marine Corps 1949-1951. He joined the West Orange NJ Fire Department in 1955, eventually becoming Deputy Fire Chief until his retirement in 1991. Whitey, as he was known to family and friends was an avid sports fan and closely followed his beloved NY Giants and NY Yankees. He also enjoyed spending time at Monmouth Race Track.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Thomas W. Vincent, Jr. (Anne) of Brick, NJ and David J. Vincent (Catherine) of Parkland, FL. Grandchildren: David, Jr., Joshua (Danielle), Rachel Hill (John), and Danielle Mercier. Great Grandchildren: Anthony Vincent, Joshua, Gabrielle, and Analiese Hill, Brittany Mercier and Brandon Walker, along with several cousins.
Visiting will be held on Thursday August 17, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St. in West Orange.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday August 18, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, Benvenue Ave. in West Orange. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 and Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
