I am so, so sorry to hear of David's passing. He was a sweetheart of a guy and I always remember him smiling. May his memory be a blessing.

Dave came to Salt Cay and dived with me at Salt Cay Divers. We almost instantly became friends. He loved Salt Cay so much I sold Dave his house that he and family lived in while staying on Salt Cay. Dave loved his plants and did everything possible to have a tropical garden in and arid environment. He even bought a wood chipper so his plants would have the greatest chance of survival. He was an intelligent, kind man with the greatest amount of integrity. He loved family and friends and treated all with equal respect. I will miss him and his humor.

I knew David in Salt Cay for about 20 years We agreed about most things
and he was very generous with his help. Moral; Uncompromising; with the intellectual ability to make these qualities effective.
I admired and loved him and will miss his wit and charm. Bram Davies

Dave was one of the most ethical, kind, hard working, intelligent, giving persons I know. Always there to lend a hand and was so proud of his children and loved life. He was a true friend andI loved each time we were able to share time on Salt Cay. Dave I will keep you alive in my heart and my memories so you will remain with me on Salt Cay , one place you truly loved. I will miss you, but never forget you.

As a fellow part-time Salt Cay transplant I shared some wonderful times with Dave. He was one of a kind and I'm so glad we reconnected before he passed. Much love to his family in this time of loss.

A cousin loved by all. We were always in awe of his talent and creativity. From diapers to the White House time spent with David was always amazing. His love of his wife and children was admirable. You will surely be missed by all the lives' you have touched. Lovingly, Patricia and Elise

We met as Jeep buddies, but shared so many other interests and views. Our trips were always filled with adventures and crazy experiences (usually with us tinkering on the Commandos, finding ways to keep the travels moving forward… yet we always prevailed). You put up a spirited fight against that “c” word. I’ll do my best to keep you in my thoughts with every Jeep adventure I take in the future. Going to miss you, Dave, but our time shared together won’t be forgotten. Rest peacefully, buddy, as you take care of your family from above.

To me, David’s character was as deep and clear as his voice. Resolute, determined and blessed by boundless humor. I saw this first-hand when we first worked together in the Washington Bureau. Often under dead-line pressure, David was the young man who kept operations humming; and when I might be just a bit “intense,” it was David who found a way to puncture the tension and put smiles in play—at least for me. I truly valued this.
David was also a conscientious, devoted father, traveling every weekend from our house where he lived for a time to be with his daughter; sharing his time and energy cheerfully, with purpose. I know he continued in that vein with Kelda and his young son, Ethan. He had deep affection and love for them all.
David also had the intelligence and insight to support his compassion: he could, and did work not just in distant places such as Hawaii, but among the politically powerful in Washington, both actually in the White House and further afield.
His enduring strength was the steady, dependable contributions over time at The NYT. In David lived the quintessential newsman; he served so well in the tradition of professional effort.
And, hopefully side-stepping a mere cliche in these moments, he was truly a friend. He will be missed.
Sincerely
Paul Hosefros

I am so sorry to hear of David's passing. David was a beloved colleague for many years on the National desk at the Times. It was a high pressure position, but he was always so can-do, sunny and warm with me, a reporter on the desk. I wish I had known he was ill, but working from home we have lost our work family. He was an important part of mine. - Laurie Goodstein
