Dad, how we miss you. Mom has now joined you. I am heartbroken to have you both not in our presence any longer. How I will miss your voices. Dad, I didn’t express much on the original post because I was just shocked and couldn’t bare expressing how I felt. I don’t know why. As you know, lol I was always very particular on your appearance, as much as I could help it, when you no longer could do it. You had to be shaved and dressed because that’s how we were raised with you always put together and coordinated. I will miss you pinching my checks and miss your and mom making sure I always left with food every time I visited you both in Brooklyn. I will miss your dancing and your silliness to make us smile. Yes, you were very strict when we were young but that made us what we are today. I will cherish your Puerto Rico hat and your sun glasses as these were your staple. I love you and miss you. Now, may you mom and Chino be together as mom would have wanted. I will think of you, mom and Chino everyday. Please take care for mom. We miss you terribly.
May you all be resting in peace!
With much much adoration your daughter Tati.

My Dearest Grandpa….what can I say? There was a great part of me, I suppose a naive part of me that thought, when the day came that I would no longer get to see you, that I would be okay in a way. Able to handle it better. Perhaps I thought because you have lived such a long and wonderful life, a wonderful 88 years, that it would somehow lessen the blow. I can tell you for certain Grandpa….it has not. 36 years with you was not enough! I miss you so much right now. The realization that I won’t get to kiss your smooth bald head again, dance with you, have you pinch my cheeks so hard that it makes you laugh, and watch action movies with you…is heart breaking. I don’t know what really took place on Monday because on Sunday both you and Grandma were fine. But I know you loved/love Grandma more than words could ever express and perhaps you knew she was in worse shape than you. Perhaps you felt she needed more help than you. A great part of me believes you saved Grandma and sacrificed your own life…for your love. For your soulmate. And even saying that out loud rocks me to my core because you were truly a selfless, loving, and affectionate man to your wife and your family. It was hard to tell grandma in her state that you had passed on her 96th birthday but we will continue to give her strength. I will miss you so much Grandpa but I will see you again. Your memory will always remain deep in my heart. You were an unforgettable man and I can assure you….that remains true to people who knew you for even a short time. Give a big hug and kiss to Padrinho for me. Descanse en paz. I love you always. RIP.

I met Johnny through my best friend and sister in Christ Frieda 40 years ago. Since then we share many memories like activities in church and gatherings in their house. We used to have fun when Johnny made a split on the floor dancing salsa. I know you have a good life, you have fun sharing with your wife, and children, and the rest of the family. I would like to express my most sincere condolences to Frida, Tati, Doris, David, and Jeanette. May God bless you all.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the Fernandez family. I came into this family when I was only 4yrs. Spent close to 5 years with them on a daily basis. I became the neighbor that did not seem to ever go HOME. I love you all very much, and I can not begin to tell you how my heart aches to not be able to say a proper farewell to your Dad. For this I am deeply sorry. The best years of my life were spent in this home, with this family, enjoying being the pesky neighbor and little bother, Titi' road dog and bestie. Among my fondest memories were Friday nights. Johnny would come in, you could already sense he was in weekend mode. He came in the door dancing, danced around the kitchen, spinning around trying to find anyone who would dance with him, sometimes he found a partner sometimes he did not. He loved to show everyone his moves, and to point out what was a great song. He and his brother, together, should have been on TV. To a 5yr they were the next best thing to cartoons. It was heartwarming to see that he aged so gracefully. Still wanting to dance, and enjoying music. I saw him a few years back, with cuffed jeans and converse sneakers, looking like cool daddy-O, and thought this is how it's done. Age is just a number, clearly he knew this already. Holding you all in prayer, and close at heart. Long live his memory, he was so much fun to be around.

Thank you Selma. Just to remember what you remembered at age 5 is incredible. Yes! That’s exactly how my father was. Ready for the weekend to party. It was certainly and house full of people all the time. I certainly miss them days but the memories is what we all hold on to. Thank you Selma for sharing your memories. He will be missed. His bless you and family always!
