After retiring from the fire department in 1987, he owned and operated Legaline Courier Service for over 30 years and was an Essex County Sheriff.
Don and Juanita grew up in Newark, NJ, across the street from each other, they were childhood sweethearts. Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years on the USS Forrestal. Upon his return, they were married and remained soulmates for more than 70 years.
Their marriage was an inspiration to many people, especially their children and grandchildren. Don devoted his life to the family he loved. He loved the beach, loved the pool and loved to vacation at the Jersey shore with his family. Learned from his years at the firehouse he made the world’s best garlic bread. He was a beloved husband, an amazing father, and a proud grandfather. He always supported his family’s dreams and goals and was so proud of their accomplishments. He will be tremendously missed by all those who loved him.
