Obituary of John M. Banas

John M. Banas Jr. - John M. Banas Jr. of West Orange died on Friday February 19, 2010 in Montclair. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange 340 Main Street at 8:30 AM then to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for the Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair. Visiting will be Tuesday 3-7 PM. Letters of condolence may be posted at danglerfuneralhome.com. Mr. Banas was born in Nyack, New York and lived in West Orange for 20 years. He served in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring at the rank of Commander in 1978. While in the service he was awarded the Order of the Cross and Crescent and Bronze star with "Combat V: for Meritorious Service in Vietnam. Mr. Banas was a member of the New York Futures Exchange at the Board of Trade of the City of New York, Inc. He became an auditor for the United States Army working in Fort Monmouth. He Graduated from Congers High School, Congers, NY in 1951, Seton Hall University in 1955 and from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1975. His awards included: Eagle Scout and All-Country High School Soccer Player. Mr. Banas was a member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Mr. Banas was the beloved husband of Madeline Banas (nee Clayton). Devoted father of Suzanne Oneto and her husband Joseph F. Jr., Terrence Banas and his wife Ashley. Cherished grandfather of Tessa Grace.
