Obituary of John Joseph Lynch

John Joseph Lynch, 92

John Joseph Lynch, 92, of Newark passed away peacefully on Sunday May 6, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Cedar Grove surrounded by his loved ones.

Visiting will be held on Friday May 11, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street.   Letters of condolence may be posted at danglerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to: Sisters of Charity, PO Box 476 Convent Road, Convent Station, NJ 07961.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday May 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Church, 510 Valley Street in Orange. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.     

John was born in Elizabeth, son of the late William and Margaret Lynch, and was a lifelong resident of Newark. He was a Detective with the Newark Police Department, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. Mr. Lynch proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of NJ Police Honor Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, NJ Retired Police & Fire Association, and the American Legion.

John was the beloved husband of the late Anna Lynch (nee Hummel). Devoted father of Maryann Lynch. Cherished uncle of Mary Alice  Swartout (John), loving great-uncle of Alisyn Busico (Steve), Chayne Turano (Dan), and  Kaity Lee Swartout. He is also survived by 3 great-great nephews, 2 great-great nieces, and numerous cousins and friends.

The family is eternally grateful to the caring staff at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home for the love, care and kindness given to John during his residency there over the past year.
